Harry earned his Commercial Pilot Licence with the Australian Helicopter Academy after seven years working on the ground around helicopters. Soon after completing his training, he was offered a position with HeliSpirit in Purnululu National Park, flying over the iconic beehive formations of the Bungle Bungle Range. His role also includes supporting operations between Kununurra and the park, giving him valuable exposure to the logistical side of commercial aviation.
From the outset, Harry credits AHA for setting him up for success. The academy’s instructors, who also work within HeliSpirit’s commercial operations, provided training that extended far beyond the syllabus. Their real‑world experience shaped his understanding of operational decision‑making, situational awareness, and the professional mindset required to thrive in the industry.
Training in the Kimberley proved to be one of Harry’s greatest advantages. The region’s reliable weather, stunning landscapes, and lack of controlled airspace meant he spent more time flying and less time waiting for clearances. The environment became a natural extension of the classroom, allowing him to build confidence and capability quickly.
Now based in Purnululu, Harry spends his days flying scenic routes over one of Australia’s most remarkable national parks. He describes the experience as the perfect beginning to his aviation career, combining challenging flying with unforgettable views. His journey from ground crew to commercial pilot reflects the value of dedication, hands‑on learning, and choosing the right training pathway.
As he continues to build hours and expand his skills, Harry is living the dream he worked tirelessly to achieve, and his story is already inspiring the next generation of pilots looking to follow a similar path.
